About The Farmhouse Nursery and Preschool

A little bit about us

We are a small independently run nursery based in  an old Farmhouse. In the summer of 2025 we converted the existing offices into our beautiful nursery.

We have been on quite the journey to renovate the building. We have knocked down walls, installed children's toilets and landscaped the overgrown garden. Finished off with a lick of neutral paint and maple oak vinyl flooring!

Our Ethos

We’ve taken inspiration from Hygge in the Early Years and the The Curiosity Approach. We’ve chosen neutral colours to create a calm, cosy and homely environment. Each day the children will have the opportunity to be curious and explore the learning environment both inside and out. We do apply some structure to the day allowing the children freedom to follow their own interests and discover new things. Our day will also involve a group carpet session lead by one of the nursery team. This allows for the children to further develop their knowledge and understanding and to share their thoughts and ideas with others.

What is Hygge in the Early Years?

Hygge is a Danish word that encapsulates the feeling of a warm, cosy and calm atmosphere . In the Early Years Hygge practice nurtures children's wellbeing by giving them time to explore without putting too much focus on the end result.

We have a large outdoor space which we will be using regularly and in all weathers as well as our Forest School site and allotment! Hygge in the Early Years empathises the importance of nature and how we connect to it. With this in mind we will be exploring the changes throughout the seasons and encouraging the children to bring nature inside where possible

(collecting leaves for craft, picking from our allotment for snack or snipping herbs from our sensory garden for play dough)
